THE DEPARTMENT of Energy (DoE) will start checking power generating plants’ declared capacities against the actual amount of electricity they dispatch to the grid, a ranking official said yesterday.

"We have to check the numbers and see where the gaps are in terms of the nominated [sic] and dispatched capacity. There is a great divide and we’d like to find out where that is. The Secretary informed the NGCP [National Grid Corporation of the Philippines] that the DoE will be taking a more active role in being present and visible in terms of monitoring the declared capacities of the generating companies," Energy Undersecretary Josefina Patricia M. Aserit told reporters.
"For instance, [we will check] if [generation companies] notify the NGCP that a number of plants will be under rehabilitation and some will operational," she explained.
"Last year, we noticed that they seldom followed the program. There were a lot of unplanned and forced outages that affected generating capacity which was available to supply the demand." -- ENJD
