Province seeks share in hydro plant operation

Sunstar Baguio
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - Benguet Provincial Treasurer Imelda Macanes is asking the Baguio City government for the province’s share in the operations of the hydro power plants located in Tuba town but are run by the city.
Macanes took the cue from a resolution backed by the entire legislative body of Tuba asking the province to collect the national wealth tax from Baguio City for utilizing the three mini hydro electric plants.
Months ago Tuba officials already asked for their share of the Asin plants in a resolution signed and approved by the local council and Mayor Florencio Bentrez.
Officials are requesting Mayor Mauricio Domogan to consider giving them three percent from the gross receipt output of the three mini hydro plants effective upon their operation, a share of 3,000 watts of the street lights and for public buildings within the municipality and P1 million for the improvement of roads in the area.
The City Government of Baguio took over the operation and maintenance of the mini hydro electrical plants of Asin Plant I and II located at Barangays Tadiangan, Nangalisan and Poblacion in 2006.
Baguio City officials decided to manage the plants on their own capacity when the management contract between the Baguio Water District and Hedcor expired. (Ma. Elena Catajan)
