FORTY private companies in Davao Region committed to practice energy conservation management system in their respective establishments, as they underwent a national workshop on energy efficiency and conservation held Wednesday at the Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City.
Assistant director for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Division Jesus C. Anunciacion said this company will cause each company a saving of at least P20 million annually.
Piloted here, a series of similar workshops is scheduled in different cities and provinces in the country in the next six months.
"We are targeting to train and encourage at least 600 private companies this semester to join us in our efforts in promoting the habit of energy conservation in the workplace," he said.
The workshop, co-handled by the Development Academy of the Philippines, is aimed to introduce the concept of energy management and measures on energy efficiency and conservation.
Participants were trained on heat rate improvement in power generating plants, efficient heat ventilation and air conditioning system, efficient lighting system, and efficient transport system and fuel efficiency.
The Department of Energy (DOE) earlier conducted a similar program targeting government agencies to practice and adopt energy saving measures in the workplace.
This time, the department is expanding it to the private sector as it is one important industry vital to complement the efforts of the government sector.
Some of the private companies that participated in the workshop were San Miguel Brewery, NCCC Malls, SM Davao, Gaisano Mall, Abreeza Mall, and many others. (PR)
