AN OFFICIAL of the Department of Energy (DOE) in Davao Region denied allegation of some cause-oriented groups that the DOE has been producing bias and unreliable energy audit report.
Antonio De Guzman, DOE Davao Region chief of Science Research Specialist, said Monday that DOE being a government entity is independent of any private interests like that of AboitizPower Corp.
"The government must ensure that there is enough power sources that will meet with the growing economy of the country," De Guzman said during the opening of Aboitiz's 'clean coal' exhibit at the atrium of SM City the other day.
De Guzman insisted that Mindanao and Davao region in particular will experience power shortage in the future.
Based on their latest energy audit, which was conducted last month, Mindanao will experience an adverse power shortage totaling to 2500 megawatts by year 2030.
The DOE official said this is especially so because several large-scale businesses are coming in the city and investments in various forms are pouring in the entire Davao region.
De Guzman's reaction was in response to allegations of various environmental groups like the No To Coal Davao in their clamor for a reliable and transparent energy audit.
For Juland Suazo, DOE's findings about the power Mindanao power crisis are baseless and unreliable as it is coming from a government agency that is prone to businesses' influence.
