THE Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) has activated Task Force Kapatid System's Loss Reduction team to combat power pilferers in its franchise area.
Zamcelco project supervisor and acting general manager Jesus Castro said the task force will help reduce the system's loss, which already affects the financial stability of the cooperative.
Castro said every one percent of system's loss translates to P2-million loss to the Zamcelco.
The task force has already started the inspection on the electric meters of big business establishments to ensure that their meters are not tampered and are paying the right amount for the power they consume, Castro said.
The task force is composed of engineers from the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperatives I and II and Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative.
Castro said the hiring of engineers from other electric cooperatives will ensure transparency during the conduct of inspections.
Meanwhile, Castro said the system's loss for the residential consumers have been reduced by 1.8 percent or from 17.8 percent to 16 percent. (Bong Garcia)
