ABOITIZ Power Renewables Inc. (Apri)—the renewable-energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower)said on Thursday more homes, offices, schools, hospitals and other establishments in Albay will enjoy the benefits of reliable electricity.

Apri said it recently began supplying additional energy to Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco), an electric cooperative that provides power and distribution services to the entire province of Albay.

Apri harnesses Cleanergy, AboitizPower’s brand for clean and renewable energy, from geothermal sources. Under the agreement, Apri will provide Aleco with approximately 16,560,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month.

Apri said the supply agreement represents a 65-percent increase from its original contract energy levels. Apri’s contract with Aleco started in April 2010 and is set to expire in April 2013.

In 2010 Apri was contracted to supply 40 percent of Aleco’s power requirements through Apri’s geothermal plant in Tiwi, Alabay, which translates to an average energy level of 10,000,000 kWh and demand of 23 megawatts.
