CORELLA, Bohol—National Grid Corp. held recently the groundbreaking of the Bohol Backbone Transmission Project at the Corella substation in Barangay Sambog.
The ceremony signals the start of work on bringing power from Imelda substation in Ubay, Bohol to Corella, about 10 kilometers from Tagbilaran City.
National Grid president and chief executive Henry Sy Jr. was represented by Guillermo Redoblado to launch the P1.4 billion infrastructure which is expected to attract investment and generate jobs in the province.
Aside from eco-cultural tourism, Bohol is aimingt for light and agro industries, which demand reliable and efficient power service.
The project includes the erection of steel towers to string high-tension wires carrying 138 kilovolts of power.
The 95-km line passes nine towns and 60 barangays to the Coralla substation.
Power passes on from Imelda substation, which also receives power from across the channel in Leyte from Tongonan Geothermal Plant made possible by the completion of Leyte-Bohol Power phase 1 interconnection.
As a safeguard against power interruption during inclement weather with strong winds and debris, the National Economic Development Authority Investment Coordination Committee approved a fiber-optic connection for the Bohol Backbone for good measure. PIA
