STATE-OWNED Philippine National Oil Co.-Renewables Corp. is putting up three geothermal energy projects to shore up the country’s power supply.
Roger Buendia, PNOC-RC president, said the company’s $106-million geothermal power projects would add up to 60 megawatts of generating capacity to the grid.
“Three sites are frontier areas. Very rough estimate based on previous experiences from other geothermal projects is about $52 million per site,” he said.
These projects include the 20-megawatt Mainit-Sadanga, 20-megawatt Buias-Tinoc and 20-megawatt Mt. Isarog in Mt. Province, Ifugao and Camarines Sur, respectively.
PNOC-RC is developing the first two projects alongside Aragorn Power and Energy Corp. and Magma Energy Resources Inc.
The state-owned firm however will pursue the Mt. Isarog project on its own.
The Mainit-Sadanga project’s potential capacity could go up to as much as 100 megawatts.|
Besides the said projects, PNOC-RC is also part of the consortium developing the 20-megawatt Maibarara geothermal power facility in Mt. Makiling.
