The government has revived its interest in the Trans-Asean gas pipeline, which will create access to the abundant supply of natural gas from Indonesia.
“Indonesia is saying they are going to put up a lot of gas by 2016, so they are also interested in finding ways to sell their gas,” Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras said.
“We’re interested in that [pipeline] discussion because we know that natural gas is the way to go,” he said.
The possibility of a Brunei to Palawan natural gas pipeline was first raised in 2005 during one of the meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The Palawan to Brunei gas pipeline is estimated to cover about 1,000 kilometers or double that of the Malampaya gas pipeline to Batangas.
Almendras said another option is to link the pipeline to Mindanao, where the region can take advantage of the natural gas for fuel, power and industries. source
