THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the country’s sole power-lines concessionaire, said on Thursday that it has completed the first phase of the Luzon Substation Expansion project in its Cruz-Na-Daan (CND) transmission facility to ensure efficient, stable and reliable delivery of power in various parts of Central Luzon.
NGCP said that the project included the upgrade of the existing 100-megavolt ampere (MVA) load capacity of CND Substation to a new 100-MVA transformer and its associated equipment. Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) loads are also connected to this substation, it said.
NGCP added that another ongoing project is the installation of a new 300-MVA transformer unit at Cabanatuan Substation in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija. Upon completion, the installation is expected to avert overloading of existing power transformer of connected local distribution utilities, power generations and other industries in Nueva Ecija and Aurora.
The Cabanatuan project is set for completion and expected activation by month-end, NGCP said.
The Luzon Substation Expansion I project involves installation of additional transformers to accommodate load growth and provide N-1 contingency at various substations in North and Central Luzon. N-1 contingency refers to the capacity of substations to withstand the loss of a major system component with minimal disruption to the grid.
NGCP is a privately owned corporation tasked to operate, maintain and develop the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets.
NGCP’s regular maintenance activities and expansion projects aim to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to customers.    source
