The Energy Regulatory Commission has authorized Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. to release P100.55 million to fund the five watershed programs of National Power Corp.
ERC said in a ruling the approved watershed budget should be used based on the rules and procedures governing the utilization and disbursement of the universal charge-environmental charge.
PSALM is mandated under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 to manage the assets and liabilities of Napocor.
“The petition for the availment of the environmental charge/share from the universal charge for the rehabilitation and management of watershed areas filed by National Power Corp. is hereby approved with modifications,” the ERC said.
Napocor earlier filed a petition with the ERC to avail of the environmental charge/share from the universal charge to rehabilitate and manage watershed areas.
Napocor’s charter gave the state company control over watersheds surrounding the reservoirs of power plants and future projects.
Napocor said it had the right to avail of the universal charge of the environmernal share of P0.0025 per kilowatthour for the rehabilitation and management of watershed areas. source
