A SUBSIDIARY of Aboitiz Power Corp., Therma Mobile, Inc. (TMO), has received provisional approval from the state regulator to develop, own and operate transmission facilities that will connect to Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

The approval was contained in an Energy Regulatory Commission order, dated Oct. 1.

TMO owns and operates two power barges moored at Navotas Fish Complex, with two more such facilities in the pipeline. The existing barges are ready for commissioning and connection to the grid, the order read. The P45.316-million project will “allow interconnection of TMO’s 242-megawatt power barges to Meralco’s 115-kilovolt sub-transmission network.”

“TMO plans to sell to WESM (Wholesale Electricity Spot Market)... or to Meralco under a power supply agreement. It has started discussions with Meralco for the... interconnection agreement,” the order read, adding that the plan “will also address power demand within Meralco’s franchise area and necessary reserve in Luzon, considering scheduled maintenance shutdown of large generators from time to time which diminishes available power supply.”   source
