MANILA -- Transmission service provider National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) assured Monday that it has implemented the necessary preparations and precautions to minimize any possible power supply interruptions in areas that will be hit by Typhoon Pablo.
"Preparations include ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas, to facilitate the immediate restoration work," said the private operator of the country's electricity superhighway.
NGCP's Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP) prescribes these and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities which are expected to be affected by the passage of the typhoon, it said.
Early Monday morning, the typhoon was estimated, based on satellite and surface data, to maintain maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and move west northwest at 24 kph.
Public Storm Signal No.2 has been raised over Surigao del Sur and northern part of Davao Oriental. Storm Signal No.1 has been raised over Siquijor, Bohol, Biliran, Camotes, Leyte, Eastern and Western Samar, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Island, Agusan del Norte/Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Samal Island, Compostela Valley, Bukidnon, Misamis, Camiguin, and Lanao del Norte/Sur.
NGCP said its Overall Disaster Command Center, which operates 24 hours a day, will monitor all power restoration activities, reports and updates from the Regional Command Centers in North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, whichever is directly affected by the weather disturbance.
It will also closely coordinate and communicate with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), other government offices, local and national media agencies, it added. (SDR) source
