Alsons Energy Development Corp., a unit of the Alcantara Group’s Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc., will put up a $892-million, 400-megawatt dedicated power plant for  Sagittarius Mines Inc.’s Tampakan mining project in southern Mindanao.
Alsons said in a statement Sagittarius Mines selected Alsons Energy as the preferred power generation supplier following studies on the technical, environmental and commercial viability of a range of power generation options.
Sagittarius Mines’  Tampakan copper-gold project in South Cotabato is among the most attractive, undeveloped long-life, large-scale and low-cost copper deposits in the world.
The mine is projected to produce 375,000 tons of copper and 360,000 ounces of gold annually in the initial mine-life of 17 years.
The Alcantara Group, meanwhile, is a developer, owner and operator of power generation facilities in Mindanao.
Alson Energy will develop 400-MW, open cycle gas turbine and coal-fired power station in the Kamanga Agro-Industrial Ecozone at Barangay Kamanga in Maasim, Sarangani to supply power to the Tampakan mine.
The new power facility will be owned and operated by A/S Power Development Inc., an Alsons Consolidated subsidiary specifically organized to establish and manage the 400-MW plant.
Alsons Energy consulted with stakeholders on its plan to put up the plant in September 2012 as part of the process for securing an environmental compliance certificate.   source
