SN Aboitiz Power Corp. is pursuing the expansion of the 360-megawatt Magat hydro- power plant and smaller-sized hydro plants to beef up its hydro portfolio, the company president said over the weekend.
SN Aboitiz president Emmanuel Rubio said the company filed applications with the Energy Department to expand the hydro projects.
“We already filed but we have not yet received [the service contract from DOE]… We have a number of applications within our facility,” Rubio told reporters.
SN Aboitiz Power is a joint venture between SN Power of Norway and Aboitiz Power Corp. It owns the 360-megawatt Magat hydropower plant and applied with the Energy Department for a renewable energy service contract covering the 115-MW Magat expansion.
The company also has a pending application to develop five small-sized hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 50 megawatts.
Rubio said while waiting for approval of the applications, the company recently completed the rehabilitation of all four units of the Binga hydropower plant in Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet.
The company started the rehabilitation program for the Binga facilities in 2010. SN Aboitiz won the bid for the Binga facility in 2007 with its $325-million offer. source
