The Energy Regulatory Commission approved three transmission projects of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines costing over P6 billion to boost the reliability of the power grid.
The ERC said the projects, namely the Antipolo EHV substation, Calaca-Dasmariñas 230-kilovolt transmission line and the Opol substation, would benefit consumers in terms of reliable and efficient power supply.
The ERC approved the construction of a new substation in Antipolo City costing P3.1 billion and directed National Grid to “conduct competitive bidding for the purchase of major materials in the implementation of the proposed project.”
National Grid sought the approval of the ERC early this year to build substation in Barangay San Juan in Antipolo City.
National Grid expects the new Antipolo substation to prevent potential system congestion and relieve the San Jose substation in Bulacan, which carries the bulk of Metro Manila’s load.
The San Jose substation is the merging point of generation supply coming from the 600-MW Masinloc and 1,218-MW Sual coal plants from the north, and the 460-MW Quezon and 735-MW Pagbilao coal stations from the south.
National Grid plans to complete the Antipolo EHV substation project in 2016.
The ERC, meanwhile, approved the P3-billion Calaca-Dasmariñas 230-kilovolt transmission line project with modification.
The regulator approved the Calaca-Dasmarinas transmission project in Batangas but rejected the construction of four Compact Air-Insulated Switchgear to be installed at the Dasmariñas and Sta. Rita substations.
The project aimed to accommodate additional power capacities expected from three power plants—Puting Bato, Batangas and San Gabriel—from 2014 to 2017.
“NGCP is hereby directed to submit a progress report with an indication of any variance in the implementation of the project and time schedule and conduct a competitive bidding for the purchase of the major materials in the implementation of the proposed project,” the ERC said.
The ERC also made permanent the provisional approval of National Grid’s P600-million Opol substation project aimed at accommodating the expected load growth in Misamis Oriental. source
