State-owned National Power Corp. awarded two contracts worth P206 million to install the 76-kilometer 69-kV transmission line in the towns of Mobo and Cataingan in Masbate province.
The project is a part of the Energy Department’s 2012–2016 Missionary Electrification Development Plan. Napocor, under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, is mandated to ensure electrification of missionary of far-flung areas outside the reach of the National Grid Corp. of the Philipines.
Napocor said the project was divided into two segments, with the first 34 kilometers awarded to DM Consunji Inc. through a public bidding while the other 42 kilometers was awarded to Power Dimension Inc.
Napocor said with the completion of the project, there would be a significant reduction in system loss in the area, which in turn would also mean lesser generation to deliver a certain amount of power to consumers.
“Aside from minimized system loss, the transmission line will also improve power dispatch, enhance system protection and attain power stability and reliability in the Masbate grid,” said Napocor president Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita.
The 69-kV transmission line can accommodate future power generators, in case of an increase in power demand, Napocor said.
Meanwhile, Napocor said the 10.83-km Mobo-Aroroy line 3 was currently undergoing rehabilitation and was 62-percent completed. Napocor allotted P41 million for the said undertaking.
The state-run firm will also spend another P84 million for the rehabilitation of the Mobo- Aroroy line 1 (17.56 km) and 2 (15.03 km).
Napocor also manages the transmission system in the provinces of Palawan, Marinduque, Catanduanes, Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro.
The small power utilities group of Napocor serves 221 island grids, including eight isolated grids catering to 3,947 energized barangays in 216 municipalities. source
