The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said on Thursday the generation component of electricity bill for August may go up.
The utility firm will announce on Friday the power rates for August. But Meralco Head of Utility Economics Lawrence Fernandez said there are indications of an upward adjustment in generation charge.
The said charge is the electric bill’s biggest component, averaging about 60 percent of the customer’s average monthly power bill. This charge goes directly to Meralco’s power suppliers and not to Meralco.
“Indications point to a higher generation charge due to power plant outages, leading to low plant dispatch and higher Wholesale Electricity Spot Market prices,” Fernandez said. source
