THE Department of Energy (DOE) has started its energy audit of various government offices to assess their energy efficiency efforts.
According to the DOE, four teams have been dispatched to different government offices to do the energy audit. The teams came from the DOE’s Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB), Electricity Power Industry Management Bureau (EPIMB), and the office of the Secretary.
The energy audit is being conducted after the agency issued a department circular that enjoins all sectors to implement energy conservation measures in the face of a looming power shortage next year.
The circular also encourages all electricity-consuming sectors to implement demand-side management program and other energy conservation measures.
EUMB Director Patrick T. Aquino said the audit includes government offices and government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).
The circular, however, excludes hospitals, military installations, and airports among other facilities of similar nature in fulfilling the provisions of the circular.
“Energy conservation must be keenly practiced in order to secure a steady supply of energy in the country,” said Aquino.
Under the department circular, EUMB shall develop and implement various electricity demand-side management programs and projects nationwide including a system of incentives and penalties.
To conserve energy, the DOE advised the public to take simple ways such as the use of LED Technology, inverters and setting to the cooling system to higher degrees. RITCHIE A. HORARIO source
