Aboitiz Power Corp., one of the country’s largest power producers, has endorsed the campaign to conserve power as the country braces for a projected power shortage during the dry months of 2015.
AboitizPower president and chief operating officer Antonio Moraza said the power conglomerate was appealing to the public to practice energy conservation in eight simple ways.
Visayan Electric Company, AboitizPower’s distribution utility in the Visayas, spearheaded Cebu’s own energy conservation program dubbed Cebu Unplugged.
Moraza said it garnered the support of the Cebu local government, business establishments and the general public.
“Cebu Unplugged is an advocacy that encourages the public to join a collective effort to save energy, and instill an attitude of consciousness and mindfulness towards energy conservation. It was successfully launched in Cebu earlier this year, and AboitizPower believes this can easily be replicated nationwide to create energy consciousness in every Filipino,” said Moraza.
The program began early this year as the Visayas’ own pro-active response to the threat of a nationwide power shortage.
The program suggested simple ways, including switching off the computer when not in use and using one gadget at a time; taking a break from gadgets by reading a book or enjoying the company of family and friends; watching only favorite TV programs and turning off the TV while doing other things; switching off lights when not in use and keeping the refrigerator door closed. source
