Energy World Corp. of Australia said Friday it expects to complete a unit of a new liquefied natural gas-fired power plant in Pagbilao, Quezon to deliver 400 megawatts of electricity in Luzon during the dry months of 2015.
Energy World said in a disclosure to the Australian Securities Exchange a 200-MW gas turbine manufactured by Siemens arrived onsite in Pagbilao this week.
Energy World is building a 650-MW LNG-fired power plant in Quezon. The second 200-MW gas turbine and generator is expected to arrive in the next three weeks.
“As previously advised, we have been requested and encouraged by the Department of Energy to bring in these units into commercial operation as soon as we can and we are therefore working diligently to meet the request,” Energy World executive director Brian Allen told the Australian bourse.
The power plant is being constructed in Barangay Ibabang Polo, Grande Island, Pagbilao.
Phase one will include a 130,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank, regasification facility, jetty, and supporting infrastructure while phase two will include an additional 130,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank.
The project is estimated to cost P12.9 billion, according to records from the Energy Department.
Energy World said it accelerated the development of the plant and expected to have the first unit ready for commercial operations by early 2015 and the second unit to come online shortly. source
