THE Aboitiz-led Aseagas Corp.
secured the go-ahead of regulators to develop and own a dedicated
point-to-point limited transmission line to connect the 8.8-megawatt (MW)
Aseagas Lian biomass power plant to the Luzon grid.
The proposed transmission facility
costs P12.76 million.
“The application filed by Aseagas
for the authority to develop and own a dedicated point-to-point limited
transmission line to connect the Aseagas Lian biomass power plant of the
69-kiloVolt Calaca-Nasugbu transmission line of the National Grid Corp.
of the Philippines [NGCP] is, hereby, approved,” the Energy Regulatory
Commission (ERC) said in its 12-page order.
The proposed transmission line will
be utilized by Aseagas’s biomass-power plant to connect and deliver its
generated power to the Luzon grid through the NGCP transmission line via tap
connection.
The ERC said Aseagas’s application
is in accordance with the provisions of Section 9 Paragraph 3 of the Electric
Power Industry Reform Act and other issuances of the ERC and will redound
to the benefit of the power consumers in terms of continuous, quality, reliable
and efficient power supply.
The proposed transmission-line
project is said to be the most economical and feasible option to connect the
power plant to the transmission system.
Aseagas said the construction of the
line will be funded internally and externally from a pool of generated funds.
Earlier, Aboitiz Equity Ventures
Inc., the investment holding firm of the Aboitiz Group, said its board approved
the sale of all of its equity interests in Aseagas to Aboitiz Renewables Inc.,
a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp. which houses the group’s
renewable-energy projects, such as run-of-river, geothermal and solar
developments.
