MANILA, Philippines – Off-grid
energy producer DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) is investing nearly P1 billion to build
a 3x6.3 megawatt (MW) bunker-fired power plant in Irawan, Puerto Princesa City
to provide stable electricity supply in the area.
In a statement yesterday, DPC said
it would spend around P900 million to complete the facility, which is targeted
to commercially operate by the last quarter of 2017.
The power project is being
constructed at the request of the Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco).
In a board resolution dated Aug. 6,
Paleco requested DPC to replace its existing hi-speed diesel generator sets to
a more reliable bunker-fired plant to assist in alleviating the power
interruptions in the main grid of Palawan.
The power firm recommended the
installation of the generating sets in Puerto Princesa City, which serves as
Paleco’s load center.
“We believe this is a good
investment because of the benefits it will bring to the people of Palawan,” DPC
president Nestor Dadivas said.
“With a more stable power supply,
Paleco can support more businesses and economic activity in the area,” he said.
Constructing the new plant on the
said location will expectedly lessen transmission line constraints in the
delivery of power.
“We are committed to addressing the
energy needs of Paleco and will do everything we can to provide them with
sufficient, reliable electricity,” Dadivas said.
At present, DPC operates diesel and
bunker power plants in Masbate, Palawan and Oriental Mindoro.
