MANILA, Philippines -
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) recently awarded to
First Balfour Inc. the contract to construct the P1.699-billion Hermosa-San
Jose 500-kilovolt transmission line project.
The contract, the first
partnership between NGCP and First Balfour, involves the construction of an
additional network of transmission line towers in Bulacan, Pampanga and Bataan
as part of NGCP’s Luzon 500kV backbone.
NGCP is undertaking a
number of new backbone projects to assure the long-term adequacy and
reliability of connection between the NGCP grid and power plants that will go
online in the future.
The First Balfour
contract for the Hermosa-San Jose 500-kV transmission line project calls for
the construction of 230 steel towers over an 83-kilometer stretch between the
New Hermosa 500-kV substation in Hermosa, Bataan; and the San Jose substation
in San Jose, Bulacan.
The Hermosa-San Jose
project, which is targeted for completion within 18 months, aims to meet the
transmission requirements of Metro Manila and Central Luzon.
First Balfour, a Lopez
Group company, is one of the country’s leading contractors in the power and
energy construction market, wherein it has built power plants, transmission
lines, and substations around the country.
Over the past 48 years,
it likewise has played a role in building other infrastructures, such as roads,
bridges, and expressways; along with hospitals, schools, and industrial
facilities.
