Transmission company energizes Maramag-Bunawan line

Sunstar Davao
TO IMPROVE the stability and reliability of power transmission services to Davao City and other southern Mindanao areas, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has improved its 138-kiloVolt line from Maramag, Bukidnon to Bunawan, Davao City.
Maramag-Bunawan Line 1, with a rated capacity of 330 megawatts (MW), was energized and looped to the grid on the first week of October. Line 2, which is capable of carrying another 330 MW, has been energized as well.
NGCP maintained that its transmission facilities in Mindanao--transmission towers, lines, and substations -- have been fully operational and ready to deliver available power from the generators to the grid users.
Both back-up lines are intended to reinforce and improve the current primary lines and increase transfer capacity from the north to south of Mindanao.
About 90 percent of the total generation in the grid comes from the northern part of Mindanao. The Mindanao grid was designed for a "two-way" flow of supply that is evenly dispersed between north and south.
To alleviate the stress placed on the lines, NGCP prioritized the completion of the Maramag-Bunawan lines. However, even with this improvement, it is essential for the generation supply to be balanced between the north and south portions of Mindanao. More baseload plants must be located in the south.
