Indian company eyes $100M investment for solar energy

Sunstar Iloilo
AN INDIAN company is planning to put up a $100 million solar farm in Iloilo City to provide 10 megawatts energy this year and another 15 megawatts in 2012.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog announced this after two meetings with officials of Apca Global Ltd. represented by Nikesh Sinha in Metro Manila and at his office in Iloilo City.
Solar energy, according to Mabilog, is currently the most sought-after power source because it is clean and environment-friendly.
"It is widely used in the United States and European countries, and industries in the Philippines are starting to look for the unlimited power from the sun," he said.
Mabilog said if the investment plan pushes through in Iloilo, the current power supply from Panay Power Corp. (PPC) and its sister company Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) will be greatly augmented with clean power from the sun.
Aside from power benefits, the Indian investment will develop the economy of the city and province of Iloilo, said the mayor.
