The Joint Congressional Power Commission has expressed support to the P24-billion Leyte-Mindanao interconnection project of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to stabilize power supply nationwide.
Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said the project would boost power supply in Mindanao and draw more investors to the island.
Rodriguez said power companies in Mindanao can also bring electricity to Luzon and the Visayas through the interconnection.
Rodriguez also commended National Grid president Henry Sy Jr. during the latest Congressional hearing for the private concessionaire’s decision to go ahead on the first phase of the project.
“National Grid has already applied with the ERC for the start of the feasibility studies for the project. [The project] assures Mindanao of power and investors because if it is interconnected with the entire Philippine grid, already then we would have more investors in Mindanao,” Rodriguez said.
