MORE POWER PLANTS in Luzon and the Visayas have been allowed to sell electricity, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said in a statement on Monday.

The ERC granted certificates of compliance, which are required for generation facilities to start commercial operations, for the plants of Cebu Energy Development Corp. (CEDC), Hacienda Bio-Energy Corp., Bacavalley Energy, Inc. and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
CEDC’s coal-fired thermal plant in the Brgy. Daanglungson, Toledo City, Cebu has a capacity of 1.5 megawatts (MW).
Hacienda Bio-Energy’s certificate was for its two methane gas-fired power plant units, also in Cebu, with combined capacity of 200 kilowatts (kW). The company deals mainly with renewable energy projects for hog farms and other livestock operations.
The 4.2-MW San Pedro Landfill Methane Recovery and Electricity Generation power plant in San Pedro, Laguna of Bacavalley Energy provides electricity to Laguna.
Finally, SBMA acquired certificates for a 120-MW bunker diesel-fired plant and a 404-kW emergency diesel-run generator.
The diesel power plant began operation in 1993 under a build-operate-transfer agreement with Enron Power Philippines Corp. and the National Power Corp. Enron transferred ownership to SBMA last year. The power plant facility can contribute power to the Luzon grid.
"The grant of certificates of compliance to Cebu Energy, Hacienda Bio-Energy, Bacavalley and SBMA came after a thorough evaluation of these power plants’ compliance with environmental, technical and financial standards. With these safeguards, electricity consumers are assured of quality, reliable and a sustainable supply of power," said ERC chairwoman Zenaida G. Cruz-Ducut in the statement.
