Council reorganization 'won't affect decision' on coal plant

By Jereco O. Paloma
DAVAO City Vice Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte said Tuesday the major reorganization at the City Council will not affect the decision of the entire law-making body on the proposed coal-fired plant project by the AboitizPower Corporation.
This was Duterte's contention after all the committees of the City Council have been vacated during Wednesday’s regular session and the law-making body has undergone major reorganization.
"Simpleng trabaho lang 'man namin yan (Deliberating on the coal plant is just a simple job). It's no big deal, it's just that what you decide on must be good for the people," Duterte said.
Davao City Councilor Pilar Braga, who chairs the committee on energy, transportation, and communication tasked to conduct three public hearings on Aboitiz' proposal, earlier said the City Council may decide before the month ends.
Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has been very consistent in her stance as she distanced herself from the issue while she leaves the matter to the City Council for decision.
