NGCP bags deal to provide meters

Manila Times.net
THE company running the country’s power transmission highway on Friday said it was officially granted the authority to be a Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) metering services provider.
National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said the certification finalizes the provisional authority previously granted by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) as metering services provider.
Provision, operation and maintenance of revenue metering facilities are utility functions that state-run National Transmission Corp. assumed from state-owned National Power Corp. (Napocor) as mandated by Republic Act 9136, or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act.
The NGCP then became the de facto metering service provider of Napocor and other energy suppliers for the purpose of billing their energy sales to their customers.
NGCP has rehabilitated and upgraded the metering points from the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao grids to distribution utilities and other load customers to make these metering facilities “WESM-ready.”
Meter boxes, back-up meters, and revenue meters for substations are some of the metering structures that have already been replaced and enhanced.
The Automated Meter Data Retrieval System is also in place to satisfy the requirement of the WESM for the daily delivery of load profile-type of meter data from all metering facilities.
NGCP is controlled by Henry Sy, Jr. of the SM group.JAMES KONSTANTIN GALVEZ
