Alstom of France and The First Northeast Electric Power Engineering Co. of China Engineering Group 1 bagged the contract to supply the equipment of the biggest power project in northern Mindanao.
The two foreign companies signed a contract to supply FDC Utilities Inc., a unit of the Filinvest Group, with equipment for the 405-megawatt coal power plant at Phividec Industrial Estate located in Misamis Oriental.
FDC Misamis Power Corp., a subsidiary of FDC Utilities Inc., broke ground for the P40-billion coal plant in November 2013.
The 405-MW project, currently the biggest in northern Mindanao, will meet the increasing demand for energy in the region and is expected to attract more investments for the development of the province.
Alstom said in a statement it would deliver three 135-MW steam turbines and generator sets, as well as condensers.
The French conglomerate will also provide advisory services for the construction of FDC Utilities’ circulating fluidized bed power plant.
Alstom said it would manufacture the steam turbine generator equipment in its facilities across France and Poland.
The units are expected to go online by 2016 and will generate electricity for Mindanao, as a part of the long-term solution to the recurring blackouts in the island.
Alstom vice president for industrial steam turbines Daniel Wahler said the company’s stellar track record as a leading energy solutions provider was the key reason it was awarded the contract.
“We are proud to be partnering with FDCUI and NEPC to provide Philippines with a solid power infrastructure for its development,” Wahler said.
“We are one with the government in ensuring reliable and competitively-priced power for one of our fastest-growing regions in the country. The Mindanao grid needs new capacity to ensure longevity of power sources without the fear of blackouts occurring in the region,” FDC president Jesus Alcordo said earlier.
Alstom said the FDC Utilities’ project was the second contract that Alstom bagged from NEPC in Philippines.
Alstom will also supply steam turbine generators for the Concepcion power plant in Iloilo.
Alstom is a global leader in the world of power generation, power transmission and rail infrastructure and sets the benchmark for innovative and environment-friendly technologies.   source
