Energy gab shows tidal power, data center and decision software

(The Philippine Star) Updated September 05, 2011 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading energy event, PowerTrends 2011, will exhibit technologies in generating energy from tidal waves, host a free seminar on operating a data center that evaluates and assesses conservation of energy, and provide a free analysis software as a tool for deciding on clean and renewable energy projects.

PowerTrends2011 to be held from Sept. 28 to 30, 2011, is supported by the Department of Energy, National Power Corp., and energy-related government agencies. It will be held at the SMX Convention Center.

‘Hammerfest Strom, a Norway-based technology company, will introduce visitors to the advantages of delivering energy from several tidal power plants consisting of tidal turbines under the sea. Its technology team will offer insights on tried-and-tested technology. Tidal energy generation, due to its predictability, is believed to become a significant part of the renewable energy mix. Hammerfest Strom delivers turn-key tidal power plants.

Total Site Solutions of Maryland, USA will conduct a seminar on operating a data center on Sept. 28 for real estate developers and executives in mission critical facilities, IT professionals and managers, operators of medium to large data centers, broadcast/data communications professionals, data center facility managers, and energy managers. Take–out knowledge includes understanding of techniques for reducing power consumption and improving energy efficiency of clients with heavy consumption of energy.

The RETScreen International Renewable Energy Project Analysis Software is a decision support tool developed by experts from government, industry, and academia. The software is provided free of charge by the RETScreen International Clean Energy Decision Support Center. The software can be used worldwide to evaluate energy production, life-cycle costs and greenhouse gas emission reductions of renewable energy technologies (RETs). This center is managed under the leadership of the CanmetENERGY research centre of Natural Resources Canada.

Interested parties may contact the PowerTrends secretariat at leverage@leverageinternational.com or 818-68-28 or fax 810-1594. The event website is powertrends.leverageinternational.com.

Other global energy players will exhibit their solutions for industrial, commercial and business users of energy who are choosing competitive energy supplies, technologies and infrastructures even as they operate amid changing scenarios shaped by Middle East upheavals, climate change and economic developments.

Among these are Conergy System Technology of Germany, Hydrochina, Alstom of France, BAE Batterien GmbH, Nordex Asia, Eckpack Service GmbH & Co., Formosa Heavy Industries, Shell Philippines Exploration B.V., Andritz Hydro Inc. of the Andritz group of Austria and several China companies introducing their products for the first time in the Philippines.
