THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) will upgrade its facilities in Bohol to improve the island’s power supply.
Henry Sy Jr., NGCP president and chief executive officer, said the new project will allow Bohol to attract more investments and create job opportunities.
“The project will not only benefit Bohol but also the whole Visayas in the long run. This will reinforce the high-voltage transmission backbone and ensure that the power grid remains secure and reliable,” he said.

NGCP will put up a new substation and expand existing transmission facilities. The project involves the expansion of the Ubay substation and the construction of the new Corella substation with power system protection. Also, 95 kilometers of 138-kiloVolt overhead transmission lines using steel tower structures will be installed to connect the two substations.
The company tapped Xian Electric Engineering Co. and Hyosung Corp. for the said project. The former is one of China’s biggest power transmission and distribution engineering contractors while the latter is an industrial conglomerate based in Korea.
Both substation and transmission line components of the project are scheduled for completion by January.
Around 60 barangays in nine municipalities of Bohol will benefit the most from the project.
