Aboitiz Power Corp. subsidiaries Hedcor Inc., Hedcor Sibulan Inc. and AP Renewables Inc. (APRI) were recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for their exemplary adherence to the country’s labor standards.
Hedcor Inc. and Hedcor Sibulan, Inc. were among the awardees of the DOLE for commendable labor standards in a ceremony held last December in Davao City.
APRI, on the other hand, was awarded by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) of the DOLE, the Secretary’s Award of Distinction—Institutional Category during the Eighth Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) also held in December.
One of the DOLE’s five seals of good housekeeping, the GKK has been a highly-coveted recognition for implementing successful safety and health programs, and promoting occupational safety and health toward zero-accident in the workplace.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz presented the award to APRI Senior Vice President (SVP) for Operations, Kevin Beavers, during the awarding ceremony at OSHC on December 5, 2012.
Meanwhile, DOLE gave out the Tripartite Certificate of Compliance with Labor Standards (TCCLS) award to top 13 companies including Hedcor Inc. and Hedcor Sibulan in Region 11. The awarding ceremony was held on December 6, 2012 in Davao City.
“We take pride in this award because it is a confirmation that we really did well for the health and safety of our employees,” Hedcor Vice President for Mindanao Operations Rolando Pacquiao said.
The TCCLS award is given to companies that show commitment and exemplary adherence to the provisions on General Labor Standards, Occupational Safety and Health Standards, the Child Labor Law under Republic Act 9231, industrial peace and enterprise stability and competitiveness.
To qualify for the award, companies are closely examined by the DOLE during the validation process. DOLE Regional Director lawyer Joffrey Suyao expressed his gratitude to the participating companies. He said, “This award is the first level seal of good housekeeping issued by the Regional Office.”
The award brings the Hedcor companies a step closer to the DOLE Secretary’s Labor Law Compliance award and the Tripartite Seal of Excellence award—the highest honor given by the department.
The Hedcor companies were considered for the awards because of the good rapport and constructive communication between employees and management. DOLE also cited the proper documentation and implementation of health and safety programs of the companies.
Past awardsThis is not the first time that Hedcor was honored by DOLE. In previous years, the company has received multiple awards from the agency. Among these are the Gawad Kaligtasan and Kalusugan Award for Occupational Safety and Health and the Safety Milestone Award given out by the Bureau of Working Conditions. source
