Northern Negros power restoration fast-tracked

Bacolod City, Negros Occ.  — The Victorias-Manapla-Cadiz Rural Electric Service Cooperative (VRESCO) continues to fast track work for the full restoration of power supply in northern Negros over a month after its power lines were damaged by super typhoon Yolanda.

VRESCO linemen are being assisted by teams from other electric cooperatives, including those from Central Negros Electric Cooperative and Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, in conducting round-the-clock restoration work.
VRESCO general manager, lawyer Dan Pondevilla said the electric cooperative lost some P30 million worth of facilities and equipment to typhoon Yolanda.
He said VRESCO is losing about P4 million in daily revenues after the typhoon toppled over 500 of its electric poles and about 85 of its 69-kilovolt main power lines.
Pondevilla said VRESCO hired contractors to hasten the replacement of damaged poles and transmission lines.
“We thank other electric cooperatives for sending some of their linemen to help us. We are rushing everything for the full restoration of power here by Dec. 24,” he said.
VRESCO serves consumers in the towns of E.B. Magalona, Manapla, Toboso and Calatrava towns and the cities of Victorias, Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante and San Carlos.
These northern Negros towns and cities were the worst-hit in the province, with thousands of houses totally and partially damaged, and several millions worth of crops and animals lost, and infrastructure damaged.   source
