Mindanao’s power
supply is expected to be stable by the second quarter of 2016 given the
scheduled operation of new plants.
Committed power
projects in Mindanao reached a total of 1,920 MW as of October 31, data from
the Mindanao Power Monitoring Committee (MPMC) showed.
Among the coal-based
power plants that are expected to link to the grid are the two units of San
Miguel Consolidated Power Corporation (SMCP) with a combined capacity of 300 MW
and Saranggani Energy Corporation’s (SEC) Unit One with a capacity of 100 MW.
Commercial operations
of SMCP’s 300-MW two-unit plant of SMCP are expected to start in May and June,
while SEC’s facility is set to come online by April.
In addition, a Therma
South Inc. (TSI) unit with a capacity of 150MW is set to come back online in
the first week of January, along with the power plant of Steag State Power Inc.
following a preventive maintenance shutdown.
Of the 1,920 MW,
1,760MW will come from coal-fired plants.
