MANILA, Philippines – Rizal town in
Palawan will now get 24 hours of power supply after the state-run National
Power Corp. (Napocor) installed a 300-kilowatt (kW) generator set in the area.
In a statement, Napocor said the gen
set was granted to Rizal Diesel Power Plant as part of efforts to further boost
tourism in the area.
‘More than a thousand households of
the said town will now enjoy 24 hours of power supply, extended from 16 hours
of service.
Napocor president Ma. Gladys
Cruz-Sta. Rita indicated the high net reserve of Rizal DPP as the main reason
for the extension of service hours. During its 16- hour operation and prior to
the approval of the new genset, Rizal DPP has a dependable capacity of 570 kW
and a demand of 337 kW.
“With the new gen set, we have put
the reserve power at 480 kW, enough to operate at 24 hours,” she said.
The municipality of Rizal is one of
the flourishing sites in Palawan for local and international tourism.
Watersports and trekking are
particularly popular in the area aside from swimming in its clear beaches. It
is also where the entrance to the Mount Mantalingahan Protected Landscape is
found, the highest peak of the province of Palawan.
“An improved tourism industry and
local commerce can be expected now that Rizal has 24 hour power supply,” Sta.
Rita said.
Other towns seen to enjoy
uninterrupted power service include El Nido, Taytay, San Vicente, Culion in
Palawan; Caluya in Antique; and Siasi in Sulu. However, the Siasi Electric
Cooperative opted for 22 hours of operation.
