Calapan City,
Oriental Mindoro — The National Power Corporation (Napocor) in Mindoro has come
under heavy criticism for its alleged failure to restore a single electric post
along its 69 kilovolts (KV) transmission lines that had been knocked down by
typhoon “Nona” which ravaged this province last December 15.
One of its critics, a
key personnel of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO), the lone
distributor of electricity in the province, who requested that his name be
withheld, attributed the cause of the delay and low voltage supply for their
lines to Napocor’s alleged inaction.
“Ni isang poste hindi
pa nila naitatayo hanggang ngayon (Not a single post has been restored up to
now),” the ORMECO personnel told Manila Bulletin.
Robert M. Davalos, Napocor manager for
Mindoro and Romblon Division, explained that his people are still under the
process of emergency procurement for rehabilitation which is expected to be
completed in two weeks time.
Davalos said since
the electricity load being distributed by ORMECO is still small, there is still
no need to reactivate the 69KV transmission lines which were either downed or
crumpled by the 150 km/hr deadly typhoon, the worst that hit the province in the
past decade.
“But as the
rehabilitation of distribution system progresses, perhaps halfway, there is
gradual increase in load and a corresponding drop in voltage, that’s the time
you need the transmission lines,” Davalos said.
