Surigao City – The whole province of Surigao del Norte, including this city and tourist haven Siargao Island, and portions of Surigao del Sur will experience a 12-hour brownout today.
Aside from the 20 Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island and this city, also to be affected by the daytime power interruption will be the municipalities of Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen and Lanuza in Surigao del Sur.
In a notice sent to the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives (AMRECO) president Sergio C. Dagooc by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the brownout will start at 6 a.m. up to 6 p.m.
“Based on its notice, NGCP will temporarily shut down in these areas due to some engineering activities and improvement in its transmission lines,” Dagooc said, who is also the general manager (GM) of Siargao Islands and Dinagat Islands Electric Cooperatives.
He said the power interruption was also due to tapping of conductors and overhead guy wires at the newly constructed structure “bored piled foundation” along Butuan-Placer 138 KV line.
“The NGCP will also conduct ride-on correction of identified defective high voltage equipment in Placer sub-station and Barangay Anislagan, also in Placer, Surigao del Norte,” the AMRECO president told Manila Bulletin yesterday.
“Based on our experience, the NGCP will exert all its efforts to restore the line much earlier than the schedule they set,” Dagooc added.
