Development Corp. lauded the Energy Department for intensifying the development
of geothermal energy to attain the targeted 35-percent renewable energy mix.
“We
highly welcome the DOE’s recent directives to explore and maximize geothermal
energy sources in the country, and especially to reclaim our rightful place in
the global energy sector as one of the top producers of geothermal energy,”
said Marvin Bailon, EDC head of business development, trading and marketing in
a statement.
Energy
Secretary Alfonso Cusi is pushing for geothermal power development to
help attain energy security and boost Republic Act 9513, or the Renewable
Energy Act of 2008.
Cusi
said the department was preparing a formal directive that would contain
initiatives and guidelines on how to promote geothermal energy development and
increase its utilization.
“I
would like to issue an order to really look deeply and comprehensively into how
we can develop geothermal. I have been really thinking about it, assessing how
we are addressing RE,” Cusi said.
