The following week will be crucial for President Benigno Aquino III in terms of how he will conduct and implement the government’s agenda for development, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in a briefing Friday.
“After the President set the right tone for his administration, next week will be crucial. PCCI will submit various resolutions to the President next week. As of now, we are reviewing the 10-point agenda program to be submitted to him,” Benjamin Philip Romualdez, PCCI vice president for industry, said.
Romualdez said among the group’s agenda that needed immediate action by the chief executive were high electricity rates, tourism industry, environment, mining and the controversial reproductive health bill.
He said the group would present a 10-point agenda to the President during the 36th Philippines Business Conference and Exposition scheduled on Oct. 13 to 15 at the Manila Hotel.
Romualdez said the group planned to link small businesses to the country’s largest corporations. The PCCI will advocate a procurement process in which small businesses will be given the chance to supply the requirements of big corporations.
PCCI president Francis Chua said program had garnered the full support of big companies in the country.
“This will give bigger opportunities for small and medium enterprises in the country, as these large corporations will be having the option of sourcing their requirements from these SMEs,” Romualdez said.
The PCCI has also urged the government to ensure a competitive investment environment for the mining industry through stable policies.
Chua said the government should settle the gaps and inconsistencies in existing laws, rules and regulations governing the mining industry.
