CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Subic EnerZone (SEZ) Corporation has formally enrolled in the Department of Labor and Employment’s (Dole) Kapatiran Wise-TAV (KWT) Program.
Regional Director Raymundo Agravante, of Dole-Central Luzon, said the SEZ “will set the tone for Subic Bay Freeport Zone locators to adhere a culture of voluntary compliance to labor laws as a way of life.”
“This partnership between the Dole Regional Office No. 3 and Subic EnerZone, together with the support of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, marks yet another important milestone in the Dole’s campaign for the sustenance of industrial peace at the work place because it is the first Subic locator to be enrolled under the KWT Program,” he said.
Agravante and SEZ general manager Engr. Warell Kern Sario led the signing of the agreement, which will cover 37 direct-hired workers of the energy firm, including more than 90 contractor-workers of its subcontractors and service providers.
“Your initiative and efforts are commendable and we are hopeful that other companies here at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone would soon do the same. Like you, your subcontractors, based on our recent plant visits, are likewise laudable because they are generally compliant with labor standards and safety and health standards. As your program partner, rest assured that we will be with you in every step of the way,” he said.
The Dole’s development programs were undertaken by SEZ, its subcontractors, and service providers like the tripartite certificate of compliance with labor standards, Kapatiran Wise-TAV, basic labor standards, and basic occupational safety, and health standards.
Sario said cooperation is needed to ensure that the KWT program will benefit SEZ stakeholders.
“We have a big challenge ahead of us, but more than just aiming for a Certificate of Compliance, we truly and genuinely want to instill this culture of voluntary compliance to labor laws in our organization and with our partners. Rest assured that we will extend our assistance on this joint-endeavor,” Sario said. source
