Two hydro project development subsidiaries of Aboitiz Power Corporation were conferred International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications which serve as testament to its adherence to operational safety as well as environmental stewardship.
The company, in a press statement, has noted that subsidiary Hedcor Sibulan, Inc. bagged three ISO certifications; while Hedcor Inc. was bestowed recertification for Quality Management System (QMS).
Hedcor also secured recertification for International standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), which basically delves with how the company “manages the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.”
For Hedcor Sibulan, Inc., the newly-issued ISO certifications are 90001:2008 on QMS; 14001:2004 on Environmental Management System (EMS) and 18001:2007 for Occupational Health and Safety Management.
The Sibulan hydropower plant, which was set on stream in 2010, supplies part of the electricity requirements of Davao.
According to Hedcor vice president for Mindanao operations Rolando Pacquiao, the ISO certifications are “manifestation on how we work integrating quality, safety and security in everything we do.”
And for Hedcor’s ISO recertification, company senior vice president Chris Faelnar noted that such had been “another achievement that justifies how Hedcor works”; which he exemplifies to be on the level of global standards.
The certifications, the company added, “showcase (its) adherence to continual enhancement” and also serves as evidence to “how the company manages its processes to meet customer requirements and expectations.”
As explained, the QMS 90001:2008 shows the company’s systematic control of activities toward achieving or even surpassing customer expectations; EMS 14001:2004 sets assurance to company management and employees as well as other stakeholders that environmental impacts are measured and improved; while OHSAS 18001:2007 delves with the company’s commitment to ensuring welfare for employees through adherence to healthy and safety management systems.
Hedcor is the Aboitiz group’s project development arm for run-of-river hydros. It currently has aggregate capacity of 155 megawatts from 19 plants sited in various parts of the country.
The company has aspirations for further growth; with a higher scale capacity expansion target of 400 megawatts in the next 10 years.   source
