SUNWEST Water and Electric Co. Inc. II (Suweco) announced over the weekend that it has successfully carried out the testing and commissioning of its 600-kilowatt (kW) mini-hydropower plant project in the province of Sorsogon.
“The power plant started to generate and distribute power to Sorsogon II Electric Coorperative [Soreco II] mid-August” Suweco President Jose Silvestre M. Natividad said.
Suweco’s Cawayan Upper Mini-hydropower Plant is a significant contribution to the peak demand of 12.406 megawatts (MW) of the province Sorsogon and is being supplied to the load consumer of Soreco II whose energy requirements is approximately equal to the 600-kW capacity of the power plant.
The power facility is in Barangay Guinlajon, Sorsogon City with an estimated generation capacity of 2.786 gigawatt per hour (GWH) annually.
The Cawayan Upper Mini-hydropower project is a joint-venture project of Suweco with Soreco II where the former is responsible for the power plant’s rehabilitation, development and operation.
With the commissioning, Suweco has now three operational mini-hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 4.2 MW. Two of these are in the island of Catanduanes.
Suweco’s 8.0-MW Villasiga1 Hydropower project in Bugasong, Antique, is also nearing completion and expected to be commissioned by the end of this year.
Suweco said its priority is to develop “hydro” potentials and to help electric cooperatives to rehabilitate and improve on their existing generating capacities.   source
