THREE elementary schools in La Paz district, Iloilo City were chosen as pilot areas for the Oh My Gulay (OMG) project that will provide supplemental food for students.
The elementary schools in barangays Ingore, Balabago and Ticud were chosen as adopted schools for the advocacy program sponsored by the Global Power Business Corp. (GPBC) and its power firm subsidiary Panay Energy Development Corp.
OMG aims to combat malnutrition and promote the value of eating vegetables through cultivating vegetable gardens in schools.
It started in August 2013 and has already produced vegetables like spinach, pechay and eggplants, which were showcased during their culminating activity at the Ingore Elementary School on Thursday.
The program was spearheaded by the Office of former senator Edgardo Angara in partnership with the Department of Education and East West Seed Foundation.
Also present in the event were Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, GBPC Engineer Petronilo Madrid, City Health Officer Urminico Baronda and the schools’ Division Superintendent Nelly Valerio.   source
