Aboitiz Power secures compliance clearance for uprated Magat HEPP

Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), through its unit SN Aboitiz Power – Magat, Inc. (SNAP-Magat), already got the regulatory approval to operate the additional capacity of the 360-megawatt (MW) Magat Hydroelectric Power Plant (Magat HEPP).
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, AboitizPower said on Monday that it was advised by SNAP-Magat that the Energy Regulatory Commission already issued a Certificate of Compliance (COC) for all four 90-MW units of Magat plant.
“The COC, which is valid for five years, signifies Magat HEPP’s compliance with the requirements under the 2014 Revised Rules for the Issuance of Certificate of Compliance for Generation Companies, Qualified End Users and Entities with Self-Generation Facilitates, the Philippine Grid Code, Philippine Distribution Code, Wholesale Electricity Spot Market Rules and related laws and regulations,” AboitizPower explained.
SNAP-Magat, a joint venture of AboitizPower’s subsidiary Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. and SN Power Invest Netherlands BV, is the owner and operator of the plant, which is located at the border of Ramon, Isabela and Alfonso Lista, Ifugao.
The uprating of the three units of Magat HEPP plant was already completed since last year.
The registered maximum load of the plant has been set at 95 MW per unit or 380 MW for all its four units.
For the rehabilitation of the three units, AboitizPower spent around P1.3 billion, while it allotted another P500 million for the uprating of the last unit.
As of now, the company is also working towards the development of another big-ticket hydropower project, the 350-MW Ifugao hydropower plant.
The DOE, earlier this year, already gave its approval to SNAP’s application to build, signing three renewable energy contracts for the said project.
The integrated hydropower complex will be composed of three hydropower plants namely the Alimit Hydroelectric with 100 MW target capacity, Olilicon Hydroelectric with10 MW, and Alimit Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric with 240MW.
The facilities will be developed under unit SN Aboitiz-Ifugao (SNAP-Ifugao).
SNAP’s other plants are the 105-MW Ambuklao and 125-MW Binga hydropower plants in Benguet, which had also undergone rehabilitation in the past years.
