The wrath of tropical storm “Nona”
has toppled many transmission facilities in the Bicol region and Visayas,
hence, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is working
double time on the repair and restoration of service of its affected facilities.
Massive power outages were
experienced by consumers in the storm’s path – and restoration of electricity
service had to be done both on the level of the transmission company and the
distribution utilities.
NGCP, in a statement to the media,
has noted that some lines have already been brought back to service, but the
rest are still undergoing repair.
“Inspection and restoration of lines
in the affected areas will be in full swing as soon as the weather allows,” the
company said.
As of press time, it indicated that
some damaged transmission lines in Quezon as well as in Camarines Sur and Albay
have already been restored.
These include the 69-kilovolt
Gumaca-Atimonan transmission line, 69kV Gumaca-Pitogo-Mulanay line; 69kV
Famy-Infanta line; 69kV Naga-Iriga line; 69kV Calbayog-Palanas-Cara line; and
69kV Calbayog-Bliss line.
The others have been the 230-kV Tiwi
A-Daraga line; 69kV Palanas-Cara-Catarman-Allen; and 230kV Daraga-Naga line.
The affected transmission facilities
still undergoing restoration include the: 69kV Sorsogon-Irosin line; 69kV
Daraga-Sorsogon line; 69kV Daraga-Ligao line; 230kV Daraga-Bacon Manito Line 1;
and 350kV Naga Sta Mesa HVDC line.
