DMCI Power Corp. is increasing the power supply of some areas in Brooke’s Point, Palawan to ease brownouts due to insufficient supply.
In a statement, DMCI Power said it installed two emergency generation sets in Brooke’s Point as a quick response to the request of Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO).
The move, DMCI Power said, will helps ensure there will be no outages during the Palarong Panlalawigan being held in Brooke’s Point.
“Our management has approved to install autonomous power facilities that could operate in island mode to ensure stable and steady power supply throughout the event,” said Teofe Cadiz, DMCI Palawan Plant manager.
Despite the short notice, DMCI Power was able to install two generating sets on December 6.
In its letter, PALECO noted the 69 kilovolt transmission line to Brooke’s Point is currently unreliable as it is getting an upgrade.
“We wish the Palarong Pambansa success, and would like to support this important undertaking by way of responding to the demands and urgency of the situation in the best manner we can,” Cadiz said.
Brooke’s Point and other nearby towns in Southern Palawan, including EspaƱola and Bataraza, have been experiencing power disruptions due to insufficient power supply.
To solve the problem long-term, DMCI Power, through an agreement with PALECO, is scheduled to construct a 5.7-megawatt (MW) diesel-fired power plant in Brooke’s Point next year.
