The rehabilitation of Northern Samar’s power transmission line already began and is expected to be completed by early 2016, a development seen to lessen the impact of natural disasters on the typhoon-prone province’s transmission services.

In a statement, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said it already started rehabilitating the 69-kiloVolt (kV) Palanas-Cara-Catarman line.

The project includes the installation of 169 steel poles – replacing old and dilapidated wood poles – to bolster the transmission line’s integrity.

The said line, which transmits power to Northern Samar Electric Cooperative (NORSAMELCO), is part of the nationwide network of transmission assets NGCP took over as power transmission service provider in 2009.

NORSAMELCO was notified of the line shutdowns that will be implemented to give way to the line upgrade.

Because of the rehabilitation, there will be power interruptions throughout the province of Northern Samar until January 23, 2016, from 7 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.
