THE power generating arm of the Consunji Group plans to double the capacity of the Calaca coal-fired power plant this year.
Nestor Dadivas, DMCI Power Corp. director, said the company plans to increase the capacity of the 600-megawatt Calaca facility.
“We hope to break ground within the year,” he said.
The company acquired the 600-megawatt Calaca plant in July 2009 in a state auction for
$361.7 million.
$361.7 million.
The facility is one of the Luzon grid’s four major coal plants, which were designed to run as base load generating facilities to meet consumers’ round-the-clock demand.
As such, the timing of the facility’s rehabilitation or expansion could contribute to the grid’s erratic reserves and possible outages.EUAN PAULO C. AÑONUEVO
